Western Sky Jun 6 2010 Moab UT

The moon is waning now & it's cycle is late... maybe even being up during the
day. The Western sky up this far now looks black w/ bright stars. This is what i
always like about the west. The stars look so bright and vivid. Visibility in
the day is often 50+ miles... at night it's great when your away from city
lights which is easy.

Constellations... i've forgotten more than i ever learned.... Big dipper is
easy. & find the north star. Used to know a lot of the constellations ... seven
sisters is often mistaken for little dipper. lil dipper is far away from big
dipper. Orion's belt is usually easy to see w/ sword. Cassiopea is somewhat
easy. so is big M.

Few years back in the fall out here sky was so black... could see the milky way
w/ naked eye. Yeah,... that's what i came for . Those are the things you live
for... to see that clear band of white stars forming the milky way. W/
binocs.... it will just knock you down it' s so good.

Saw a shooting star a few days back & yes.... did make a wish.

gotta go. not enough time to do this. Canyonlands & Arches NP the next few
days... more later w/ time.
