... A Dairy Queen stop & it's onto Stroud, Oklahoma - Route 66- I've driven across the country several times. A couple of times to Camp Pendelton... and was fortunate to drive on Route 66 in the mid 60s... 1965 ... when it was the Last of the real route 66. It really was Americas highway. ...A real spectacle to see. That unique section of Americana is all but gone.
All but a few miles in a couple of places that have gotten historical grants and designated a section of route 66 memorabilia. I hate to see it go. Seeing the last remnants of individualism,... the Mom and Pop stores,... the sideshows,.... the Burma Shave / precursor to Stuckeys style of roadside hucksterism that made Route 66 a treat to drive. as a teenager you couldn't wait to drive 30 more miles to see "the Old West Museum" or the 2 headed snake, ... whatever schtick attraction that you would want to make a stop and spend a few bucks.
East to Bristow, OK . Old Train station. Pics... There is still a section of Route 66 from Stroud, Oklahoma to Oklahoma City, OK. Not much distance,... but i'll take it just to see. Onto Chandler , OK... the Old Milita guard bldg... the original National Guard that looked out for America! Lincolin Motel!!!
Onto Arcadia and... it's POPS!!!!!!!! The NEW route 66. Neuvo Pop art preserve the spirit of Route 66... Where else could you put POPS... W/ it's 3,500 soft drinks.... but on Route 66 ! POP Art architecture & is a really jumpin' place ! West onto Arcadia Lk park camp for the night.
