Deschutes nat forest near Lapine OR / central Oregon

Crane prarie camp to East Lake camp/ Newberry Volcanic Monument

These pictures posted exactly opposite... the Top is Last ; Bottom Pic-- temp at am-- is FIRST pic... start of day. ... bear w/ me on getting the technical stuff right; doing the best I can.

am coffee. Marine Corps coffee... black/ strong 36* Clear. BLUE Sky is good. Tall green pines. Ground has soil ... but this is a Lava base rock. Black Lava rock outcroppings all over. ... some small hills 30' high of outcrop pushed up.

Hwy 43 and came to Pringle Falls on the Deschutes River. NO falls -- go figure. pretty fast flow to 100' wide clear river.

So find an eddy and fish some. Caught 1 Rainbow Trout. Lunch / samich by river.
See several Osprey -- White feathers-- circling in area... track to take pics... & find 150' high nest w/ young. Osprey parents are returning w/ food to feed... & are teaching young to fly. really interesting to watch for a while....had to wade in Deschutes for a few minutes. Cold! water

Back out to hwy 97 / Lapine. Now North for 5 miles to Newberry Volcano nat Monument and Lava field.....Long view of 3 Sisters... can't tear away.

by Paulina Falls-- 80' fall falls from Lake paulina nearby.

Paulina Peak 7,984' elev GREEN Ponderosa Pine forest & some smaller mtn peaks above small valleys.

Onto Big Obsidian field & lava flow... Great!!!!!!!!

Most Obsidian Ive ever seen in one place. 300' high mtns of Obsidian in places. Mix with some areas of Pumice flows. Some Rhiolite Flows w/ Red Iorn oxide striping in black Obsidian; really spectacular.

Spent nearly 2 hours there & was Not enough for a rock hound.

Late aft. headed out to East lake camp. 5pm & mosquitos come out big time. gather firewood & let smoke drive them away . getting chili so not much more outside.

Small bathrooms. COLD water.. sponge bath ... cold night.

Up during night / pit stop... walk down to Lake 50 yards. STARS again are WOW!!!! Milky Way visable / distinct w/ naked eye; Like a band of white haze across sky. Binocs bring them really close and it's beyond Breathtaking. I mean really good!

Thank you for a wonderful day. It was NOT wasted.
