Livingston, Montana to Pine Creek, Montana
2010
It's late after a day in Livingston, Montana. Livingston is a real All- American town / place. It's the real West. Gonna rest up for a day before heading west then north to glacier np.
Livingston, MT is booked up for the weekend; 4th of July Rodeo weekend. ... so drive to Pine Creek nat forest camp. head out MT hwy 89south... this is the road to Yellowstone np... and already the geological sights are phenomenal.
*** Also see some of the Yellowstone trip posts here -- http://sbtyellow.blogspot.com/ -- still adding yellowstone days as there's so much. Enjoy the Chief Joseph hwy / Beartooth hwy posts ***
It's like 50 miles to Gardiner, MT -- the North gate to Yellowstone-- ... the entrance with the great arch. ... Mammoth Hot Springs - Yellowstone is at this gate.
and you drive down this valley and it's just magnificent... and it's just WOW!!!
Then you get off on the side road down the valley MT hwy540, driving through the ranches and farms that are so picturesqe... really Montana. and get to Pine Creek camp,... bordering the Gallatin nat forest to the east // the Absoroka and Beartooth mountain ranges... absolutely stunningly beautiful.
The Yellowstone River flows north here, up the valley, from Yellowstone nat pk. Pine Creek flows into the Yellowstone river.
