Sinks Canyon Wyoming The Sink & The Rise

ITW 41

Sinks River Canyon Lander, Wyoming

Thursday June 17, 2010

This place is a Gological wonder. If you want to become a geologist... come here. The University of Missouri has a field classroom here; good choice!

The POPO Agie River flows down this canyon... 60' wide... 6 to 14' deep... fast flowing from the snowpack runoff. A LOT of water flowing.

The river goes into a "Sink" ... goes into a 100' pool, and goes underground. The river surfaces 1/4 mile away... 2 HOURS Later... in "The Rise". River goes underground to where-ever... for 2 hours. This is a fast flowing river. A Lot of water; ?What takes it so long to re-surface? They measured it w/ dye ... and it's 2 Hours to re-surface 1/4 mile away... Phenomenal!!!

At the Rise... -- no fishing allowed-- 10 to 20 lb Trout were drifting around. You could feed them... they liked Cheez-its... but no fishing. About 3 miles downriver you could fish .

This Canyon is a Geological Wonder! What a place!
