Trinidad Lake st pk 1 Trinidad, Colorado

ITW 15

May 23

Trinidad Lake st pk Trinidad, Colorado

About 8 miles west on hwy 160west and camp here tonight.

This lake / reservoir was scenic Colorado. Visability is some 40+ miles. Across the lake... that's Fishers Peak 9,600'.

This was a major landmark through history .... to the ancestral indian tribes, and the Santa Fe trail came through Raton Pass by this trail navigation marker.

This was a short travel day from Raton, New Mexico from mainenence / laundry day ect... This is agood stop for the eve. Cool and wind is about 15+ , small waves on the lake.

What I briefly saw of Trinidad I liked and will go back into town tommorrow to see what's there.

Sunday May 23, 2010

Sugarite Canyon to Raton to Trinidad, Colorado

36* 7am Coffee

Up and into Raton. Laundry / wash day.

North on I-25 ... 17 miles Raton Pass. Gap / pass into Rockies country.

Rockies Snowcap in distance... 50 miles visibility.

Fisher Peak ... distinct landmark of the Santa Fe Trail. Visible for 50+ miles... the route for pioneers through this part of the rockies. Train tracks through the pass / canyon.

Trinidad, Colorado. neat town. Old west bldgs downtown. Coal Miner memorial monument. And at the Trinidad visitors center there were veterans monuments. I always like to see the towns honor their local veterans; well done!

Hwy 12 West out to lake Trinidad st park. windy 20 to 25. Lake view is good! Also see the Trinidad Lake st pk post. Great bathrooms... Hot showers! Colorado charges a little more... but they have nice state park facilities! Thank you!
