Wolf Creek Pass summit

ITW 19

Friday May 28

Wolf Creek Pass summit, Colorado

There's a reason this place has snowpack everywhere. It's june and it's 40*. Elev is 10,863'... and that's the gap / pass to get through this part of the southern Rocky Mountains.

This was a major route west known as the Continental Divide trail. This is the main way to through the Rocky mountains get to Southwest Colorado. ... otherwise you have to go way north up to Telluride,... or back east to the Raton Pass (the Santa Fe trail ).

Pagosa Springs, Colorado ...

... and Colorado country to Chimney Rock turnoff.

Still on Hwy 160west. Headed to Durango / Mesa Verde but will camp a night down at Navajo Lake.

When we got to this hwy 151south turnoff... was captivated by the unique "Chimney Rock" in the distance. Cant' go past this without checking out.

also see Chimney Rock posts... interesting Anasazi / Ute ancestral ruins
