Desert wake up. 24* cold. Thin air lt breeze. Sunrise was good. lot of sun by
8;30 in shorts. I am now a "High Plains Drifter" . San Luis stpk is 7, 519 in
Sangre de Cristo mtns & they are wow looking. mtns are to 14,000' & some
snowpack. Bears are here on mtns. Coyotes here in desert.
US Sand dune park ... across lake... dunes are 800' higher. & 38 sq miles.
Can see Rockies 60 miles viz. Wolf creek pass to west will cross in couple hours.
Alamosa, CO. stopped at Alamosa train station... old style station. Home of Rio
Grande scenic RR w/ zyepher top viewing cars & nice coaches. route is LaVeta to
Monte Vista along hwy 160... the route just drove thru. headed west hwy 160.
South fork CO... of the Rio Grande River. hadto put my feet in. mtn town resort.
Rockies foothills. some rock climbers... this place was for you Curt!

Made it to Wolf Creek Pass 10,850 & river by road was too tempting... pulled
into primitive camp in Nat forest by river. site #9 right on river...30 ft. camp host said river was high & fast but biting at Big Meadows resiviour 4 miles
Snowcaps. fished 4 to 6pm... caught 2 decent size trout -- rainbow & lake. Table by river w. trout dinner grilled....
Expect 39* tonight. Full moon now looks neat thruy ponderosa pines. Elk have scrapped bark off trees. River have white caps flowing so fast.
No elec...river is roaring great to sleep to. What a day! nothing was planned.
